After 23 years of local efforts, the final leg of The Dalles Riverfront Trail will finally be complete. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2012.
The Dalles Riverfront Trail is a 10 mile pedestrian and bike trail winding from the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Wasco County Historical Museum along the Columbia River to The Dalles Dam. Users can entry the trail from a variety of sites, the most important access point is from the heart of downtown The Dalles, just off of Union and First.
Mid Columbia Medical Center has invested state-of-the-art health care. MCMC is a Planetree hospital embracing both alternative and homeopathic medical practice which is used by the newly completed Water's Edge Wellness Center.
MCMC has also recently partnered with OHSU to improve access to care in our rural area.
Future Improvements
Soon there will be a venue devoted just for concerts, farmer's market, community gatherings.....The location is this venue will be between Union and Washington Streets on the north side of the railroad. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year.
A multi-story parking structure/plaza/underpass will be needed to go along with the festival site. Design plans have already been completed. This will be located from Washington to Federal Streets along First Street.
Construction to begin later this year, of a new 60 foot recreational boat dock and a second commercial boat dock to be located at the end of Union Street on the Columbia River.
Recent improvements at Brewery Grade included realignment of existing streets and the installation of a round-about. The Sunshine Mill Artisan Plaza is currently home to Quennett Winery Tasting room, an amphitheater, courtyard and boccie ball court.
And the new Skateboard park is now finished and is open at the west side of Thompson Park.
